Forgotten Southampton centre-back Kevin Danso almost wrapped a European double with Tottenham Hotspurs.

Southampton fans, do you feel me when I say 2-2 has got to be the most thrilling scoreline? Four goals already give you enough dose of drama to get you up from your seats and then, there possibly lay penalties to top it off.

Five days ago, we saw Nathaniel Clyne and his Crystal Palace counterparts bringing the title home but even they will attest that the spot-kicks look good only from the outside.

Taking them or witnessing your team lining up for a penalty is a nervous situation for fans. On midweek, the Saints again saw the smiling and the gutted side of such tie-breakers with former Southampton loanee Kevin Danso falling short of a European double.

Danso's growth as a defensive stalwart will impress Saints and Will Still

Now, he only had to take on from his defensive partners and do the needful in the first but Danso had more individual merit in the second. In the process, it perfectly justifies why current Saints boss Will Still was resigned to the 26-year-old's departure in January.

Clearly, Danso has done the Southampton faithful proud, as he was in the running for a silverware that may sound easy for a single-game event but it rarely tilts towards Europa League winners. Ex-Saints mainstay Oriol Romeu saw one of the exceptional nights unfold at Chelsea when he couldn't bag the Super Cup despite the preceding Champions League success.

That was a long while from now. Hence, Danso must set Champions League goals to close the gap between tried and triumphed in annual Super Cup nights. Given the form he is riding on throughout the year, it's wise for the Saints to conclude that it can happen whether at Spurs or any other European team.
