Southampton fans are right to be concerned about Don Goodman's Nathan Jones verdict but it's not as bitter as it seems.

Southampton must have played over hundred matches since Nathan Jones was shown the exit door, yet, the fans can atleast acknowledge him for boosting their momentum like never seen before. According to Transfermarkt, he checked in the Saints dugout just before the turn of 2023 but he wasted no time in turning the losing cries to vibrant winning claps at St. Mary's before the fourth week of January.

Evidently, every Saints fan including the present owners were sold on his coaching standards but wish they could have avoided him having his own in all transfers. Because, Jones saw bags of playmaking pedigree in Kamaldeen Sulemana which unfortunately the fans couldn't see in full rhythm.

As a matter of relief, Ivan Juric was another of the Ghanaian's talent advocates so the Southampton fans could forget Jones' winter blooper. So, with the Welshman's image steadily improving among his previous supporters, the latter would wish him well in his present and future projects.

Jones must aim to gather consistent points from the get go

Even then, second division's veteran attacker Don Goodman isn't opting to hide the bitter Championship reality away from Jones and his Charlton Athletic unit.

Signalling them about efforts made by clubs of their stature, the Football League World quoted Goodman warned Jones to avoid any take-it-easy approach saying: "So yes, they all survived as well, and I think that’s the positive for Charlton Athletic and Nathan Jones is that it is a gap that can be bridged - but it will be a tough season."

Alongside Jones, Phil Parkinson also jumped divisions to reach the Championship and the same comments may hold true for him too. Can they stay as league rivals for a further year without downgrading in English football tiers, Saints will be hopeful but let's wait for the matches to come.
