Saints may think Will Still went too far following his Arsenal comments

Will Still has omitted Jan Bednarek from the away friendlies squad but Southampton fans may believe that he is over following his Arsenal comments upon knowing the Polish defender's likely understudy.

For years, the practice of discarding transfer-linked players from preseason tests is well followed and it gives some food for thought to the fans. For those who love reading between the lines, simply noting who's in or out is a fun activity to anticipate future transfer moves.

Then, later it's great to be proud of themselves if they get some transfer calls correct. However, it isn't turning out to be much fun and games for the Southampton fanbase this year.

Recently, the Saints have lifted the lid on their away tour which includes namedropping every roster member who is on track to amass more preseason minutes under their belt. Going by the official teamsheet on their website, the board has opted for a hefty defensive core but interestingly, there's a key name missing who isn't known to skip games.

Charlie Taylor may be tasked to fill Bednarek's void

Jan Bednarek, and the disappointing part is that it'll not be someone younger replacing him on the pitch. Instead, his understudy could be Charlie Taylor, no matter how strong his departure speculations are as things stand.

A few days ago, the Daily Echo even quoted Will Still referencing this Charlie Taylor plan, saying: "Chaz is such a calm and composed figure. He's reliable and is always going to be there. He showed it at the back end of last season when I came to watch the game against Arsenal, playing at centre-half that day."

As a defence-oriented fullback himself, Taylor won't be completely out of position at the heart of the defence. Even if he established himself as a downright starter, there will be more negatives than positives starting from Ronnie Edwards.

Having to prove himself from the bench after a brilliant loan, he will then be right to hand over a loan request. And rivals only want such turn of events to claim an advantage, therefore, let's hope Still doesn't forget to trust Edwards.
