Southampton might need to fend off Ronnie Edwards transfer inquiries from Leicester City now that they are set to be coached by Ronnie's QPR boss Marti Cifuentes.
Well, Don Goodman is among Championship's revered forwards and there are no two ways around it, just like he has never lined up for the Saints in his respectable career. But that doesn't prevent him from giving enough banter reasons for Southampton fans to enjoy a good time taunting their rivals Leicester City.
From a fan standpoint, these light occasional jibes are good to participate in when the nearest games appear far and almost meaningless, with the season about to begin from a clean slate. Talking about the Foxes, they may not be interested in levelling things up with a mocking response from their side.
Instead, they have altered their manager hunt direction as Goodman suggested and are about to bring in a coach nobody had guessed in their strangest imaginations. Aptly, that's not Steven Gerrard with Sky Sports mentioning in their own words: "Marti Cifuentes will be taking a pay cut if, as expected, he becomes the new Leicester City manager".
Saints must turn down Edwards request without thinking twice
Now, should Southampton be on cloud nine or buckle down even more in training will be answered after the first bunch of matchdays. Yet, Ronnie Edwards is one player who might reveal some patterns and ideologies of Cifuentes' management.
The root speculation for that relates to the returning centre-back's tremendous QPR loan where Cifuentes never found himself short of praises and handing bigger duties to the Englishman. Imagine, if the former still had Edwards on his transfer watchlist and he were to convince Leicester to inquire Southampton about the asking price and other transfer details.
Wise to believe the Saints are still invested in Edwards' potential but their ultimate opinion may be disappointing if they were certain of securing all other defensive members with them. Let's hope they apply their firm Flynn Downes-like transfer position for the 22-year-old as well.
