Norwich City are the runaway Championship transfer winners with almost five weeks remaining in the window, and Southampton fans will be surprised by that.
Now that Damion Downs has netted his first Southampton goal, fans would like to recall the Birmingham City claims made a while ago. More than twenty days ago, their fans were raving about the immense quality they were introducing into the squad.
Still, it would be more arrogant than confidence from their side if they believe they have overtaken the Saints despite the latter inking only two additions as things stand.
Why? Because only quality matters at the end of the day and both, Quarshie and Downs have found their feet more quicker than the Saints had billed them. However, there is no running away from the quantity side of things until the actual season arrives, and Southampton haven't been laughed off as weak there either.
According to a summer spending list compiled by Birmingham World, Southampton have finished joint runners-up alongside Ipswich Town.
Saints will measure if Norwich's expensive window does them any good
Quite understandable, so far but knowing the winner may not convince the Saints in the first go. Ready for it, that's Norwich City who too like Southampton can't take pride in confirming the most signings across the division.
And that's when, their previous deal didn't cost them a single penny to acquire.
From June till date, they often stayed behind the headlines, which were often occupied by the star studded reinforcements the likes of Wrexham were doing. But despite that, Norwich have carefully continued to operate in silence and for these reasons, they might figure out their way to the pinnacle of the Championship leaderboard without anyone noticing much.
Before that, the Southampton fans would be curious to know how they will fare against the Saints' rivals Pompeys. Last year, Norwich couldn't even beat Portsmouth and if they again can't on the second matchday, then it would be clear their signings are more suitable for on-paper clashes than the on-pitch ones.
