Southampton were tipped to bring Premier League veteran Asmir Begovic but his smoothly progressing transfer to Leicester City won't draw an unhappy reaction from the fans.

Paul Onuachu's preseason misfortune proves one crucial thing to Southampton, no transfer is downright terrible, even if it fails to inspire positivity among the fans. Similarly, there can be some "thanks, it never happened" type of touted signings.

One of them is edging closer, which will amuse Saints for rivalry reasons. Some time ago, Southampton fans expressed their sheer dismay when they found the board sneaking in Portsmouth legend Asmir Begovic on their to-do signings.

Then, those speculations vanished all of a sudden as if the club learned some unwritten Southern derby rules from fan perspectives. Now, Begovic's future isn't crystal clear at the moment but the bottom line is, that next destination isn't going to be St. Mary's.

In the words of Fabrizio Romano: "Leicester City, in talks with Asmir Begovic as potential option with contract terms being discussed. Deal On."

Saints shot-stoppers will decide their promotion not rivals

For Southampton fans, the interested party doesn't carry greater significance as long as it's one rival meeting up with the other. In the same way, Begovic's addition can have Leicester fans smiling nonstop but Saints will admit their promotion chasing morale won't go down, and shouldn't be when they never wished to make a recruitment they were linked to.

One shade of doubt can be brought about Aaron Ramsdale's newfound faith in a Newcastle switch and assuming Begovic maintained no past ties with the Pompeys. Then also, the verdict will stay the same but the reason for being reserved would be the 38-year-old's age.

There is Alex McCarthy for filling in behind the defence, and he has barely given complaining displays to the Southampton faithful. All in all, there's no reinforcement ground lost for the Saints.
