When Riley McGree scored Middlesbrough's opening goal on Tuesday night, Southampton fans might have been fearful that their team's unbelievable season would be coming unstuck at one of its final hurdles.
Thankfully, the spirit and desire that has permeated throughout the Saints camp, ever since Tonda Eckert took over, shone again, as Ross Stewart equalised on the stroke of half-time, before Shea Charles curled home a sensational winner, as the clock ticked over to 116 minutes inside extra-time.
The number 24 has popped up with several huge goals this season, including the opener against Arsenal in the FA Cup that saw a famous quarter-final win be secured, and he spoke of his excitement at playing in a Championship playoff final, right after the 2-1 victory over Boro had sunk in.
Charles' comments after the Boro win
If Southampton do go on to clinch promotion at Wembley, Charles will be viewed as the hero that got them to the playoff final, playing a big role in their rise back to the Premier League, subsequently.
At only 22 years of age, it's clear that the ex-Manchester City academy product has a very bright future in the game, with Nottingham Forest allegedly interested in his services, after a breakout season in the Championship with Eckert and Co.
He will be hoping he can enter the Premier League, finally, with the Saints, though, with no nerves present in Charles' post-match comments, whatsoever, when talking about the playoff final ahead. After all, it's clear he is a player for the big occasion, having also scored a 96th-minute winner earlier in the campaign against Leicester City.
He spoke of being "dead excited" by the prospect of a one-off tie deciding promotion, when talking to BBC Radio Solent after the second leg victory over Boro.
Charles said: "Everyone's dead excited. It's such a massive win but we know deep down that we've got one more game to go, so we can really enjoy it tonight and then refocus when we're next in.
"The team have done such a good job - it's such a long season. We're really just focusing on the next game every time and then we'll see what happens."
Comng across as level-headed as well, the hope will be that the Northern Ireland international can keep his cool at Wembley.
His excitement could be dampened by the potential of Southampton being expelled from the competition last minute, as their punishment for their Spygate antics remains up in the air.
Spygate might spoil his excitement
The date set in the calendar for Southampton's fate to be revealed is the 19th of May, as an independant hearing decides what action should be taken, after it came to light that a Saints analyst was spying on a Boro training session.
It would be an almighty shame for the one-time Sheffield Wednesday loanee if his team were to be expelled for these matters, as it would basically render his dramatic winner against the Teesside visitors as pointless.
The South Coast side remaining put in the second tier for another season, with a points deduction also potentially looming, would surely result in Charles being handed his Premier League wish by moving onto a team such as Vitor Pereira's Tricky Trees.
It's all hypothetical talk at the moment, anyway, as nobody is being kept in the loop as to what Tuesday will entail.
It will certainly be a comedown from the ecstasy of Southampton's win over Boro on the 12th, but hopefully, a trip to Wembley isn't ruined, for Charles' sake.
