Samuel Edozie's likelihood of putting on a Rangers shirt has been landed a heavy blow with former Saints summer shortlist Djeidi Gassama instead filling in at the Scottish outfit's left flank.

Midweek has arrived but Southampton fans are still anticipating the winner from Sunday's friendly draw. Though Rangers and Club Brugge ended fair and square, the duo have left no stone unturned in getting the upper hand over the other involving Southampton's winger Samuel Edozie.

And this ongoing tug-of-war might have stretched over a few weeks but sadly, the ruling has come sooner than the Saints presumed it to be. Simply put, the winner is yet to be crowned but Edozie has lost arguably the better of these two destinations.

In their own words, Sky Sports highlighted Rangers current move, saying: "Rangers have agreed a deal in principle to sign winger Djeidi Gassama from Sheffield Wednesday. The French U20 internationalist is set to sign a long-term deal at Ibrox."

Edozie can be surprised with a Southampton stay also

Well, Gassama is someone who finds some fans among the Saints solely due to his faint Southampton rumours in previous months. Then, Edozie was still plying his trade in Belgian football and had he paid attention to those speculations, the 22-year-old must have been excited to share the pitch with Gassama at St. Mary's.

However, lo and behold, it's Gassama being called by Rangers which only serves to confirm that they are practically out of the frame to recruit Edozie.

The rest, all depends on Club Brugge now. Whether they wish to apply the finishing touches on their Edozie desire or let that idea go fruitless just like Rangers did.

At present, the latter will have Southampton fans fuming on the board's part for mishandling their Edozie stance. From agreeing to lend out an ear for a sale and then having to welcome him back into their squad, the club might unintentionally cut a helpless figure in front of their Championship opponents.
