Southampton might be in line to bring Championship star Josh Maja to St. Mary's in the following summer, after a long wait of over five years.
To the casual Championship fans, last season's golden boot race would've left them enjoying the thrilling leaderboard. There were multiple instances of one-goal differences between strikers, and everyone knows it isn't a tough ask to bridge those gaps.
As a result, there were numerous joint-held ties in the top ten places despite the fact that nobody could cross the 20 goals milestone in such a neck-to-neck competition. Now, Josh Maja was one of those tied candidates, but what set him apart was doing it in the fewest appearances.
Definitely, West Brom fans will appreciated this achievement and Southampton fans will too, but Maja's name isn't something strange among the St. Mary's circles. Since his young Sunderland days, the Saints have remained massive admirers of Maja and low-key, it's a shame that no move has happened all these years.
Saints can tick Josh Maja off the list next year
Still, better done late than never, as Southampton can always launch a future attempt for the Baggies hitman and possibly, on free transfer terms.
As quoted by the Football League World, West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess appeared content with the 26-year-old fulfilling his present Baggies contract: "I think with Maja's case though, he has only one year left on his contract, and I'd rather see him stay for a season and go for nothing at the end of it rather than sell him for £10 million."
Well, transfer invitations aren't served like this every time and if West Brom fans don't have any problem, then Southampton shouldn't have either. In the next twelve months, the strikers are likely to thin out at the club, and Maja will then be a handy option to upgrade the team without overspending.
