Southampton can join attackers merry go round with Rangers and Newcastle United

Rangers snapped up two Southampton forward recruits, Gassama and Oliver Antman, and now, the Saints are tipped to replicate the same as they monitor Newcastle United's top attacking target duo.

Ask any fan returning from the Wrexham opener, and there's practically no chance they wouldn't acknowledge it. But a minute of consideration apart from the win that will be termed a comeback classic down the line, the Saints better ask themselves, "Was it necessary?".

That's because had they not floundered their goalscoring opportunities earlier, the Saints might have closed the game well before. And while an ask for better defending could be raised, the backline heroes would go better celebrated for at least bringing in the clutch goals on behalf of their attack force.

Like it or not, but the recent display brings back the flashes where the Saints lost on crucial attackers to transfer opponents. Needless to say, while Downs' addition has bettered the lineup, there's a need for more.

On the positive side, boss Will Still is well aware of this realisation, and the manager has his plans ready. Well, and what may unfold is a transfer masterclass with Southampton replicating Rangers' trick on Newcastle.

Saints hoping to swoop Rudoni and Fellows from Newcastle's radar

So, recently, as per the Daily Echo, Still looked excited discussing the potential recruitments of Championship talents, Jack Rudoni and Tom Fellows. And having not forgotten Rangers' double swoop of their potential recruits, Gassama and Antman, Still would look forward to hijacking Newcastle's target duo, Rudoni and Fellows, in turn.

I know, this looks more like a "wish-it-happens so" transfer case, but checking the real grounds must motivate the Saints.

There hasn't even been a fortnight since ex-Saint Ramsdale joined the Magpies, and surely Southampton would expect them to keep note of the favour. In that case, letting the Saints take the transfer charge on 2 emerging second division talents shouldn't bother Newcastle, given they won a Premier League keeper in Aaron Ramsdale.

Additionally, while Rudoni and Fellows' dream would be to adorn Top Flight colours one day, striving for frequent opportunities may influence them to prefer a Saints move over rotting on Newcastle's bench.

For now, the silver lining for Southampton remains that, apart from the transfer funds, they have got the golden opportunity available in Rudoni and Fellow. Let's see whether the Saints grab it or let someone else make the most of it.
