Southampton travel to West Bromwich Albion for a 19:45 game under the lights that could take them one step closer to the play-offs.
Wrexham, who currently occupy the last spot in the top six of the Championship, slipped up against Hull City on Wednesday (losing 2-1), once again giving the Saints the chance to capitalise.
Tonda Eckert’s side will be the clear favourites, currently on an unbeaten streak of 10 games, but West Brom, under a new manager, will pose a threat that Saints must be wary of.
An opposition winless in 2026
Hosts West Brom, now coached by James Morrison after the sacking of Eric Ramsay, who failed to win a single game in eight attempts in charge of the Baggies, will be a sizeable threat despite their league position.
A fairly physical team with two aerial threats in Aune Heggebø and Daryl Dike, West Brom tend to play in a more traditional 4-4-2 system.
When asked how big a threat West Brom will pose to the Saints, Southampton manager Tonda Eckert said: “A big one. They deserved the point against Sheffield United. I think they've played a very good game. They were very dangerous on the counter.
“They defended very well as a team, and then they have two strikers up there that are not easy to handle, especially if you have them get into your box.
“We just need to make sure that we don't allow too many balls to go into that box because it's a quality team. They were very well prepared for what came up in the last game [against Sheffield United].”
West Brom are still winless in 2026, but will hope that new head coach Morrison, who has stepped up as interim boss until the end of the season in a gamble by the club’s board, can deliver the goods for them.
"I've been asking for a positive result to get us the ball rolling, and we got it on Saturday," Morrison told BBC Radio WM.
"So it's up to us to back it up, and crucially, we're going to need our home form to be good."
West Brom’s game against Southampton is their first home game of the Morrison era, so there’ll certainly be expectations from the Baggies faithful for a much-needed result.
Eckert Boosted With Return of Duo
Southampton were without captain Jack Stephens and midfielder Shea Charles in the FA Cup on Sunday, but Tonda Eckert has confirmed that both will return to the squad for the West Brom game.
“The players are looking good. Just as I said before the Cup game, Jack [Stephens] and Shea [Charles] are going to be back in. Nothing new since full-time,” Eckert said.
The Saints won the reverse fixture in December, but it was their last three points before a seven-game winless run that dragged on until their January win over Sheffield United. This time out, they will want this game to be a catalyst for continued performances rather than a drought.
Southampton have won eight of their past 10 league games against West Brom, and will be hoping to keep that positive record up in this important game, which they really must get something out of to keep the pressure on the top six.
