Southampton are closing in on the deal to sign Albert Gronbaek from Rennes. The Danish midfielder has completed his medical and can sign permanently for £12.7m.
So far this week, there has only been one player on the minds of Southampton fans - Albert Gronbaek. The Rennes midfielder has been linked with a move to the St Marys Stadium and now reports are suggesting the Saints are eagerly close to a deal being complete.
So, now appears to be the time for Southampton fans to get excited. While they have left their transfer business until late in the window, it's nice to see that some movements are being made finally.
However, what are the conditions of his deal which Southampton fans must consider?
Southampton closing in on very smart £12.7m transfer
According to a report from Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports, Southampton are now "set to sign" Albert Gronbaek from Rennes. He will join on an initial loan but Southampton do have an option to buy him after his loan contract expires. That transfer option is set for £12.7m.
While each club has different ways of doing things, it is often the case that the medical is saved until the last task. Therefore, it is very rare that deals collapse after the medical is booked in, let alone once it's been passed. So, now is the time for the Saints to be excited, if they weren't already.
Whether or not Southampton active their option to buy Gronbaek could depend on a lot of factors. Of course, the most important factor is how the Danish midfielder plays in the Southampton red and white between now and the end of the season.
After this, there will be Southampton's position to be considered. Gronbaek could play excellently, however if the Saints are relegated, this is bound to derail their transfer plans in the summer window.
Nevertheless, Gronbaek will be a Southampton player at least until the end of the season. This can only be good news for fans who have been calling out for players to be signed.
