Three-nil down at half-time, Tonda Eckert's side staged an incredible second-half comeback to win 4-3 at the King Power Stadium tonight.

Shea Charles' curling effort five minutes into added time completed one of the most remarkable comebacks in the club's history.

After being three-nil down after thirty minutes, Southampton looked out of the contest in a match that they had designs on winning against a depleted and manager-less Leicester City.

Things went from bad to worse when Patson Daka doubled Leicester City's lead after just twelve minutes. Earlier, Divine Mukasa had driven a low effort past Daniel Peretz and into the bottom right-hand corner.

When Abdul Fatawu made it three on the half-hour mark, Saints fans could be forgiven for thinking that there was no way back.

But Southampton have garnered some collective resilience over the last three matches and have found a way to win matches.

Eckert hauled off three players at half-time

Tondas Eckert reached for his shepherd's crook at half-time, dragging off Cameron Archer, Tom Fellows and Caspar Jander.

The introduction of Ross Stewart gave the side a focal point, and the Scot was quickly in amongst it and causing havoc in the Leicester defence. Kuryu Matsuki added some energy down the right, and Shea Charles did likewise in midfield.

Those three substitutions prompted a dramatic turnaround, and Ross Stewart headed in Saints' first from a Léo Scienza cross after 61 minutes.

As Saints pressed, Andy King changed shape and brought on Jamaal Lascelles in the hope of seeing out the last fifteen minutes.

Eckert responded by swapping Ryan Manning for Welington, and throwing on Cyle Larin to partner Ross Stewart up front.

Captain Jack makes things interesting with 10 minutes to go

With barely ten minutes left, a needless push on Matsuki close to the corner flag by Silko-Amari Thomas gifted Southampton an opportunity to get the ball into the box. From the ensuing mayhem, the ball fell invitingly for Jack Stephens to lash the ball high into the roof of the net to set up a grandstand finish.

When Ryan Manning headed in a Léo Scienza cross from close range with only three minutes left, Saints fans would have been more than happy to get out of Leicester with a point. What happened next will go down in Southampton folklore.

With five minutes of additional time already played, Southampton launched one final attack. Shea Charles found space inside the right corner of the penalty area and fired a curling left-foot shot high into the top left-hand corner past a stunned Asmir Begovic in the Leicester goal.

That goal sent the away fans into ecstasy and plunged Leicester deeper into a relegation scrap at the bottom of the Championship.

Southampton climbed to ninth in the table and, crucially, are now just one point below Wrexham, who are sixth. The Saints' promotion push is most definitely back on.
