Former Lyon manager Pierre Sage is another Ligue 1 option being monitored by Southampton after Liam Rosenior and Will Still.
Yesterday, Southampton fans had their managerial appointment ambitions hit a massive blow. And understandably so, knowing their dream target, Will Still's West Ham's emotional connections.
After all, back in England for distressed personal reasons, few opportunities better than a West Ham Premier League job could be tempting to Still.
Already dejected by Danny Rohl's admission and now close to losing on Will Still, it's definitely a turbulent phase for the St. Mary's faithful. But it's one from which the Saints now know a way out.
Interestingly, having turned to Will Still after Rohl's rejection, Southampton are tipped to repeat this with another Ligue 1 manager if they lose Still's transfer race.
This time, it's the ex-Lyon boss on Southampton's transfer radar, Pierre Sage.
Southampton joins transfer race for ex-Ligue 1 boss Pierre Sage
As per L Equipe(via Get Football News France), the Saints have recently initiated links with the 46-year-old, joining the multiple English and French clubs vying for the manager's signature.
Honestly, for Southampton, who have held talks with Ligue 1 bosses, Liam Rosenior and Will Still, chasing Pierre Sage isn't intriguingly new. Yet, this time, the transfer race could be much more exciting for them.
Well, all for Sage's decisive Lyon tenure. Despite it being his first head coach spell, the Frenchman had a revolutionary spell at Lyon, taking them all the way from a mid-table side in the 2022/23 season to now being in contention for European qualifications.
In fact, Lyon's current 6th league position has had a huge contribution from ex-boss Sage, who left them in January this year.
What's interesting further? Southampton's current and former Ligue 1 manager links' clubs rank in a trinity of 6th, 7th and 8th position currently. Needless to say, having denied a move by the latter two, the Saints must be grateful for all their luck if they hit a deal with Pierre Sage.
As of now, Southampton is one of the many in Sage's race. Can the club appoint him, or is there still a change of mind possible with their former links? Let's see.
