Southampton drop game changer confirmation and fans couldn't have asked for more

Southampton have intrigued fans with the Mads Roerslev addition but beneath the surface lies a game changer recruitment for the coming future.

The final ten-day transfer lap has begun, Southampton haven't signed players in over a month, and then they present a newcomer from the Denmark national team to the fans. Who does this remind you of?

Certainly, Albert Gronbaek despite the fact that he has long ago signed for Genoa. Now, Gronbaek was an out of the box move in January and his compatriot Mads Roerslev is doing the same before September.

For a start, Southampton themselves spread his name among the Saints faithful but even then, fans got an excuse to go googling his position.

Roerslev can fit into a Malang Sarr-like role for Will Still

Ready for a relief? Roerslev is a right-sided wide defender. But apart from the basic positional needs, Roerslev can be an absolute game changer for Southampton.

A year ago, Will Still was stocked well on defensive cogs with Kevin Danso, Abdukodir Khusanov and Facundo Medina being excellent and enough to let him sleep well before league-table deciders. Yet, the 32-year-old picked up a freely available Malang Sarr who lacked in form and starting favour from all the above names.

However, what many didn't see was that Still wasn't going to let the winter unpredictability dictate his match preparations. When centre-back absences grew, Sarr jumped into the picture and collected a healthy amount of slender one-goal wins.

Southampton have put Roerslev as a same safety net, because Will Smallbone and James Bree are some of next season's free agent favourites. Although they are different profiles, Still will have to play lineup musical chairs in wide and central positions only to cover-up their unavailabilities.

Roerslev possesses the ability to put both issues to bed, and if he is deemed a starter fit, then also it's great for Southampton.
