Gavin Bazunu has sustained a nominal injury at Standard Liege. Still, Southampton can't downplay his fitness concerns after watching him tear his hamstring that needed more than half a year's recovery.

During the previous week, Southampton fans made an out of the box claim about Gavin Bazunu. The Saints didn't voiced his permanent summer exit but they shrugged their shoulders when it came to the 23-year-old's reliability behind the sticks.

In all honesty, it's clear that Bazunu has suffered his share of constant struggles on loan but a few cameos here and there have been encouraging.

Whether that will convince the Saints to retain him is another aspect but his fitness track record will certainly scare them. That's because Bazunu has sustained a nominal knock which can be the beginning of an injured-run.

Bazunu's fatigue must prompt Southampton to see the bigger picture

Around this time last year, the Republic of Ireland international had to conclude his season early due to Achilles' complaints.

Only, Southampton knows how they navigated through that hurdle while fortunately keeping their promotion push still intact. But luck doesn't remain the same every time and both Bazunu and Southampton should accept this fact swiftly.

The previous months have already been packed with more lengthy injuries than Premier League points, which perfectly conveys that Southampton's campaign rests heavily on a select few starters.

Goalkeeper is also one of them which asks for a smooth transition from Ramsdale's safe pair of hands to someone else's. And as weeks are passing by, Bazunu's appeal is declining and that dwindling assurance only hastens the club's transfer activity.

In a transfer window already assumed to be a restless one, Southampton must have been eyeing a relaxed task in some squad positions. Well, if they counted goalkeepers also in that list, then it isn't too late to change their mind.
