According to reports, Southampton would like to sign one of Scotland's most promising young talents. They have located Lennon Miller as a transfer target.
Southampton are very much in the process of building for the future. Last season, they achieved promotion back to the Premier League through the Championship playoffs.
Now that Russell Martin's side is back in the Premier League, the Saints must learn from their former mistakes. Too often, they have let promising young players go.
This was their financial model of the past and it worked during a period of time. However, now that Southampton are battling to stay up, they simply must build for the future to ensure a bulletproof Premier League journey going forward.
Southampton identify one of Scotland’s best talents as transfer target
According to a report from the Daily Record, Southampton has noticed Motherwell teenager Lennon Miller as a potential transfer target.
The report claims that the Saints are "keeping close tabs" on Miller, after he was located by Southampton owners Sport Republic. Furthermore, it is claimed that Sport Republic will continue to monitor Miller over the coming weeks, just as they have been doing.
Lennon Miller is just 18 years old but he's already made 38 league appearances for Motherwell. He is also a regular member of the Scotland youth setup, currently playing in the U21 team, so he is progressing ahead of schedule.
At a young age, Miller is already showing incredible leadership initiative. He has captained Motherwell in their most recent match against Rangers. Unfortunately, Motherwell lost the Scottish League Cup semifinal against Rangers.
Naturally, then, Motherwell hold Lennon Miller in high regard. So much so, that it would take an astronomical bid from Southampton for the Scottish side to consider selling their prodigy. Record thinks that Southampton will need to make Miller the most expensive Motherwell sale to stand a chance.
That said, it is well known that Premier League money is much different to Scottish Premiership money. After all, the current record for Motherwell's most expensive sale is held by David Turnbull, who was signed by Celtic for around £3m.
Therefore, the Saints could certainly manage a fee which would turn the heads of Motherwell. This will all come down to how well the club progresses in the scouting stages between now and the transfer window.
After all, he is under contract at Motherwell until the summer of 2026. Therefore, the Scottish side hold all of the cards here.
