Southampton must regret giving up this young attacker and it's not Jay Robinson

The Championship fixtures just keep coming Southampton's way as the Saints host table-topping Swansea City this Tuesday night.

It will be a difficult game, as Tonda Eckert's men hunt for their first three points in the gruelling division for September, but they do like playing the Welsh giants, when looking at previous meetings, with the South Coast titans not losing to the Swans since 2017.

Eckert will also be hoping that the likes of Cyle Larin and Leo Scienza are back to their devastating best, after both players failed to score away at Lincoln City last time out, as when they're on top form, a win is usually forthcoming.

The German does have some fine attacking options he can throw into games off the bench, as well, with Lewis Dobbin and Samuel Edozie at his disposal.

Annoyingly, he doesn't have Jay Robinson at his fingertips, with the 19-year-old winger loaned out to AC Monza during the summer transfer window so he could gain more gametime.

Safe to say, he's loving his loan stint in Lombardy so far.

Southampton can always cut Robinson's loan deal short in Italy, with the Saints doing just that with James Bree last season, leading to the once neglected full-back at St. Mary's turning into a first-team regular.

If he keeps up his blistering start to life at the Stadio Brianteo they might just have to intervene, with the teenager now off the mark for Ivan Jurić's Serie A minnows.

Robinson would curl home a wonderful solo effort against Parma, after hitting the post in Coppa Italia action versus Torino with a similarly sumputous strike, with Juric and Co. going on to pick up their first point of the new Serie A season due to their standout loanee.

Winning a lively eight duels, as well, in the Parma sunshine, Robinson has quickly become a fan's favourite in Lombardy, as he prepares to face Lecce next in Italian top-flight, eager to score another eye-catching strike.

It was right to move on the 19-year-old temporarily, as he struggled with injuries last season, and Dobbin was purchased for a whopping £9m, but it wouldn't be seen as a strange call down the line if the loan spell was cut short, as he could offer Eckert's side some more firepower in their fight for promotion.

At least he will return to the South Coast, with a lot more regret on Southampton's end that they discarded this other exciting attacker for good, before he could fully blossom at St. Mary's.

Samuel Amo-Ameyaw's name likely isn't as recognisable as Robinson's is to the average Saints supporter.

Indeed, the 20-year-old hasn't been situated on the South Coast, now, since last summer, as he joined Strasbourg permanently, after an initial promising loan spell.

He would score two goals from nine Ligue 1 appearances, which was clearly deemed enough to make the temporary move permanent, but this was just the start for Amo-Ameyaw in France.

He now has ten goal contributions next to his name from 56 Strasbourg appearances, which includes two goals being put away for fun just this season, from only three Ligue 1 outings, with the London-born winger always trying to score a captivating solo effort, like Robinson.

Liam Rosenior would even note that he was a "great talent" when their paths crossed at the Stade de la Meinau who possessed an "exceptional maturity for his age."

Only costing Strasbourg £8m, it's clear that the 20-year-old has so much more to give the French side, as he grows in confidence, having never been afforded sufficient gametime at his boyhood employers.

Only 12 erratic first-team appearances would fall into his lap on the South Coast, with Southampton opting to give the likes of Maxwel Cornet gametime over the homegrown gem, during their pitiful 2024/25 relegation season.

Thankfully, while they can't turn back time to keep Amo-Ameyaw grounded, they can still persist with Robinson, as he dazzles out on loan at Monza.
