Defence

Kyle Walker-Peters has displayed his versatility in the defence throughout this season and the 27-year-old is expected to start at left-back following a right-back performance against Manchester City. Walker-Peters provides more balance to the Southampton defence and his rock-solid defending as well as ball-playing abilities will play a key role for Southampton again in the Everton match.

Also, manager Russell Martin can bring Carabao Cup star James Bree as a second-half substitute if the Saints need to score a few goals to win the match. At the centre-back position, star defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis and experienced Jan Bednarek will again want to build on their heroic defensive display against the defending Premier League Champions Manchester City.

Harwood-Bellis scored his third goal of the season across all competitions in the recent 3-2 Carabao Cup win and the 22-year-old can build the foundation for Southampton's win over Everton by finding the back of the net against Everton again as he did in the Carabao Cup third round. Yukinari Sugawara has returned to full fitness and would highly likely start this Everton match to provide more reliability to the right side of the Southampton defence.

Against Stoke City, Sugawara made an impressive goal-line clearance to deny the visitors from taking a lead which again signified his importance for Russell Martin's Southampton team.
