Southampton's next Player of the Month candidates after Cyle Larin

Cyle Larin deservedly picked up the August Player of the Month accolade in the Championship for his red-hot goalscoring form for Southampton.

Indeed, he would bag an electric four goals from four second tier outings, with the stunning brace he picked up right at the end of the month, during the 5-1 mauling of Millwall, perhaps sealing the award win.

The goals haven't stopped, either, with another three Championship strikes falling into his lap in recent times against Swansea City and Bristol City.

Tonda Eckert's side, as a whole, has been fantastic in September, with 4-1 and 3-1 wins at St. Mary's the obvious standout results, but they're yet to lose in league action, overall, heading into their final second tier clash of the month against Wrexham.

Realistically, back-to-back player of the month accolades could be coming to the South Coast, with these three Saints stars surely in the running to be recognised as one of the division's most prominent performers.

Finn Azaz

Finn Azaz has been phenomenal all season long at St. Mary's, particularly in September.

He can blow hot-and-cold, as he fades in and out of contests, but he has been hogging the limelight recently as one of Southampton's most eye-catching attacking forces.

Indeed, he would score a crucial goal when the Swans came to town as the early league leaders, as he calmly stroked an effort home after just nine minutes.

Following on from this calmly taken effort, he would also pick up a goal and two assists during the emphatic 4-1 win against Michael Skubala's men, with the number ten razor sharp throughout to prey on any Robins' frailities.

Alongside Larin, the ex-Middlesbrough attacker is one of the first names on Eckert's teamsheet at the moment, and if he can pick up another goal contribution or two away at Wrexham, he should be in contention to win the division's overall Player of the Month award.

Keven Schlotterbeck

Moving away from the star-studded attack at the German's disposal, Keven Schlotterbeck could be in the running for the monthly prize, as well.

He's yet to keep a clean sheet in Championship action, which might do his odds a bit of harm, but he did score right at the start of September to start the month with a bang, as he scored a powerful header up against Birmingham City.

Away from this goal giving the Saints the slim 1-0 lead at St. Andrew's, he has also been excellent at the back in the wake of Taylor Harwood-Bellis moving to Birmingham's fierce rivals, Aston Villa.

Indeed, he would clear a shot off the line against Skubala's visitors which set the tone for the rest of the afternoon.

Additionally, he has won a brave 26 duels in total this month in the demanding Championship, as he's taken to his new surroundings like a fish to water.

It would be nice for Schlotterbeck to be recognised more widely as a standout defender, as he's already a firm fan favourite at St. Mary's, only a matter of games into his early Saints career.

Could Larin swoop up back-to-back Player of the Month honours?

It's not the craziest shout, that's for sure, as he is currently banging home the goals for the promotion hopefuls at a quicker pace than both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, who are elite finishers on their day.

He only needs one more Championship strike for the month against Phil Parkinson's men to match his August tally, and with the Red Dragons just fresh off a humiliating 6-0 loss to West Ham United, it appears likely that the Brampton Bagsman will terrorise the Welsh outfit.

If he goes on to score another brace, that would be five goals from five Championship games, which is the sort of ridiculous form that allows you to be in the conversation of winning successive awards.

He doesn't have an away goal to shout about in league action this month, though, so it's not a foregone conclusion that he will set the Racecourse Ground alight.

But, give Larin a sniff of a chance, and he will punish you.
