For Southampton fans, this will be met with mixed reception. Those glass-half-full will be leaping with joy about the opportunity to finally put points on the board. The more pessimistic, though, will be dreading the upcoming fixtures which the Saints face.
Either way you look at it, we are one step closer to the January transfer window.
Southampton will sacrifice failed Russell Martin transfer in January
According to a transfer update from journalist Jack Rosser, Maxwel Cornet's time at Southampton could be cut short in the January transfer window. He has made only one Premier League start and he could return to West Ham early, as Southampton want to free up space for another loan.
Rosser claims that Southampton want to sign a left-winger in the January transfer window. To do this, they need to free up space, with Cornet the obvious option to leave.
Cornet was signed by Russell Martin in the summer transfer window. At the time, it was seen as a good move to sign someone with Premier League experience, to help the Saints on their return to the top flight.
A few months down the line, it is clear to see that this transfer was not necessary. In fact, Southampton would be better off without Cornet in the squad.
Southampton fans are advised to brace for multiple players leaving the club in the January transfer window. Indeed, the club wishes to part ways with those on the fringe of first-team football, to make way for new and more exciting transfers in.
