Southampton are just a matter of hours away from knowing whether they are headed for the play-off final at Wembley Stadium or for the beach. A goalless first leg with Middlesbrough and controversy aplenty since then has set up a tantalising second leg at St Mary's, and the Saints are the favourites, owing to their overall form, home advantage and a shorter injury list.
But Boro have been superb away from home this season, and spurred on by the whole spy-gate drama, it's going to make for a hotly contested second leg.
Speaking ahead of the game, Saints boss Tonda Eckert has said: "We need to make sure that we take that last step together now, together with the supporters, and I’m very sure that we'll be there on Tuesday. I think it's not easy. It's a good team again. We came up with a clean sheet. We had our moments going forward, especially towards the end of the game, and we take all of those positives.
"We'll go all in on Tuesday. We'll have an amazing support at home. Then we need to make sure we do that step together.”
The Saints will have come out of the spy-gate drama as the bad guys, regardless of the outcome of investigations, but many are expecting them to progress here. Whether they can manage those expectations is another thing, and there are few more pressured games than in the play-offs.
