Dragan Solak is currently living up to his declaration that Southampton means "serious business" heading into the new Championship season.

Already, the Serbian has put his money where his mouth is to seal permanent deals for both Daniel Peretz and Cyle Larin, while a new contract offer is on the table for James Bree to sign, too, who had a stellar second half of the campaign, alongside the returning goalkeeper and striker.

It's not all sunshine and rainbows at St. Mary's, however, with the increasing likelihood that Caspar Jander could be off this summer, despite the Saints clearly being ambitious in going for promotion again next season.

This would be a blow to the system, as the German stylishly went about his business all season long, as Tonda Eckert's men had to endure their promotion near-miss.

Why losing Jander would be a blow

Southampton are well-stocked in the midfield department, with Shea Charles and Flynn Downes at Eckert's disposal, alongside the ex-Nurnberg star.

Jander would slip under the radar during the early stages of the season, but when the pressure was ramped up in the latter stages of the campaign, the 23-year-old was both classy on the ball, while also offering some bite in his varied game.

The playoff semi final second leg win against Middlesbrough, despite counting for nothing due to Spygate, was Jander at his very best, with a ridiculous 18 tackles and duels won, alongside 72 accurate passes being sprayed about with ease.

With Southampton now set to embark on a journey of redemption to try and win promotion through blood, sweat, and tears, Jander would be a perfect player to have in the middle of the park, with his fierceness, coupled with his quality on the ball, capable of dictating games.

Unfortunately, while Peretz and Larin wanted to commit themselves immediately to the Saints project, Jander could have his head turned by a Stuttgart move, with the Bundesliga giants interested.

A player would have to move away from MHP Arena first before Stuttgart attempted to get their hands on the standout number 20, however...

It will be a nervous wait

Reports from German outlet Kicker suggest that Sebastian Hoeneß's men are waiting to see what happens with Angelo Stiller this summer before swooping in for Jander.

Stiller, who will be at the impending World Cup with Germany, is just fresh off a sensational season for Die Roten, with two goals and five assists collected in Bundesliga action, helping Stuttgart to secure a Champions League finish.

Therefore, he has interest in his services - much like Jander - with Manchester United once noted as being very keen on landing the Munich-born talent.

If he does seal a move away, Stuttgart is expected to go after Jander as his replacement, with the number 20 very unlikely to say no to a move to a club that has just won itself a spot around the exclusive Champions League table.

It would be frustrating on Southampton's end to lose Jander so early into his St. Mary's journey, with only one season under his belt on the South Coast.

But nobody could begrudge the 23-year-old the opportunity to play for a team competing in such grand competitions, with a very busy transfer window ahead for Southampton that has already kicked into gear with Peretz and Larin signing on the dotted line.
