Still insists fans mustn't expect Tyler Dibling's 24/25 season for young forward

Will Still admits Jay Robinson has been the victim of cut-throat competition from Ryan Fraser and Leo Scienza, and fans must curb down expectations of Dibling's breakout campaign repeat with him.

Within a week, it's been back-to-back blows for Southampton, who recently got knocked out of the EFL Cup already. The only bright spot was that a Liverpool faceoff again levelled up the Saints' playstyle, who would be content to have both their match objectives achieved.

Still, though a positive evening overall, this elimination adds to the winless streak of 5 games under Will Stil. But while this tally concerns the fans, St. Mary's has been more bothered by the selection changes coming with it.

Now, hardly any fans have been unfazed by Saints starlet Jay Robinson's repeated exclusion recently. And while an EFL matchday ignited hopes for a comeback, the teenager was made to start from the bench again.

This situation is quite challenging for fans and Robinson himself, knowing he can grow to be the ideal Tyler Dibling successor. Yet, unlike Dibling, who operated as the sole quality right winger last season, the weight of competition in a winning-prone campaign complicates Robinson's starting case contention.

But, if anything was left, boss Will Still put the final nail in the coffin, hinting that it might not turn out to be Robinson's breakout season as expected.

Still puts his right-wing preference clear to Jay Robinson

Speaking to the Daily Echo, the manager put his stance clear on the overstressed right wing role, saying: "But again, you start Wee Man, you leave Leo out. Leo's a new signing, and he's got a bag full of potential, and you're leaving Jay out because you've got to make a decision."

Anticipated as the next Dibling, Robinson's campaign has been topsy-turvy lately, similar to Tyler Dibling himself, who's had difficulties cutting through in Everton's starting XI. And with both of their sides struggling in their respective divisions, it hardly gets better moving ahead.

Optimistically still, looking at the flip side, this situation gives room for improvement to the two youngsters to grow in their roles. Given Southampton's unchanging streak, Will Still could be calling back Robinson soon into his XI again. Hopefully, something similar happens for Dibling at his new Everton side.
