Sunderland icon points Ramsdale's miserable tally that may repeat transfer fate

Darren Bent mentions Ramsdale's previous Premier League relegations and if he ends up at a newly promoted club like Sunderland, it can take his miserable tally to four times.

Like it or not, Southampton has been one of the most inconsistent Premier League sides in recent years. And even if the club manages a massive upgrade this summer, they will have many players having seen multiple switches between the Premier League and Championship.

Now, while earning multiple promotions is a value addition to a rising player's profile, seeing these many relegations is none's desire. Especially, not for one who has been associated with the Top Flight more than often.

Yet, that's been the case with Saints keeper Aaron Ramsdale. And, already troubled by three relegations, the 26-year-old wouldn't have liked when pundit Darry Bent recently talked of his miserable tally.

Speaking to EFL Analysis, the Sunderland icon opinionated on Ramsdale's future, saying: "He needs to be playing in the Premier League. He was [relegated with] Sheffield United, Bournemouth and Southampton, but he was brilliant for Arsenal."

Honestly, having pushed Ramsdale's candidature for the Premier League spell, Bent's words will sit well with Ramsdale fans. Yet, the ex-forward's timely context comment is tipped to ignite fears too.

Next season could come with another relegation for Ramsdale

That's because, despite being a Top Flight material, Ramsdale has been falling short of a transfer to big clubs, again and again. Needless to say, the recent Newcastle interest pinpoints the same.

Notably, having been denied by Chelsea, West Ham and now Newcastle, Ramsdale's entourage must be stressed on not to play in the Championship. Well, that's what may cost the keeper again.

Intriguingly, a scenario may arise where, unlike last year, Ramsdale ends up joining a newly promoted club for the sake of the Premier League tag. If that happens, a fourth relegation could well be next, given the recent track record of promoted clubs.

In fact, maybe, this Darren Bent comment is a warning to Ramsdale not to side with his former club Sunderland to risk adding another drop to his CV.

Still, that being said, let's see what's in store for Ramsdale next season. A departure from Southampton is guaranteed, but where it will be for? We will need to wait to know.
