Southampton's head coach now has an official response to prepare, after the Football Association confirmed three charges under rule E3.1. The breaches span December 2025 to May 2026, the same stretch that ended in Southampton's play off exile.

The charges in full
The charges relate to Spygate, the saga that saw Southampton admit to watching training sessions belonging to Oxford United, Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough. An independent panel ruled the plan was contrived from the top down, and pointed a finger squarely at the coaching staff who organised it.
That ruling took Southampton's spot in the Championship play off final away entirely. Middlesbrough were reinstated in their place. Saints were docked four points heading into next season too. Now the FA charge puts the blame on one man specifically: the coach who signed the plan off.
The disciplinary panel's report said junior staff had been pressured into carrying out parts of the plan they felt uneasy about. Saints Marching's comments sections have circled back to that detail again and again since the ruling came out. Expect the FA to weigh it heavily when deciding how hard to come down on Eckert.
Supporters have argued for weeks over whether Eckert's results are worth the price of how they were earned. That debate is exactly why Eckert facing the sack has kept coming up. The chairman's continued backing hasn't settled it, and this charge will only sharpen the argument.

There is little Southampton can do publicly while the case runs its course. The wording of the latest statement mirrors previous ones almost word for word, a sign the lawyers are steering the message as much as the FA.
