Only West Ham United have scored more Championship goals than Southampton this season, summing up the team Tonda Eckert has built on the south coast.
After nine games, the Saints have won five and drawn two, with their home form in particular catching the eye.
Without their four-point deduction in the second tier of English Football, Southampton would sit in 3rd place, a point off the automatic spots.
The team is clicking into gear more often than not, and is feeding off goals from all areas of the pitch.
A remarkable stat
Cyle Larin, Finn Azaz, Tom Fellows, Kuryu Matuski, Divin Mubama, Leo Scienza, James Ward-Prowse, Keven Schlotterbeck, James Bree, Ryan Manning and Welington have all got on the scoresheet for Southampton in the league in the first nine games of the season.
For the first time in the club’s history, the Saints have 11 different goalscorers after just nine league matches, according to club historians and statisticians Duncan Holley and Keith Fray on X.

It’s a pretty insane return, and sums up the togetherness and cohesion of the side, delivering goals from all areas of the pitch.
West Ham United have 23 goals in the division, closely followed by Southampton on 20. From there, only Middlesbrough and midweek opponents Norwich City are in the vicinity on 17.
Output from all areas
While Cyle Larin tops the goal charts in the league with 7, and Finn Azaz leads the assist numbers, goals are being shared across the pitch for Southampton.
It’s an attribute that could be vitally important to them in their promotion hunt. Opta Analyst currently project them to finish the season on 75 points, but that’s with their deduction. Last season, the site gave them almost no chance of play-offs in as early as late October. Look what happened.
It’s important to remember that Southampton usually start seasons badly. The 2026/27 campaign has begun well - their fastest start to a new fixture list since the 2020/21 season under Ralph Hasenhüttl, where they topped the Premier League in November.
Despite 5-1, 4-1 and 3-1 wins, the Saints are winless on the road. They are yet to truly click into gear, and that’s the hugely encouraging sign. Things are going to improve under their exciting head coach Tonda Eckert.
Saints midfield staple Flynn Downes acknowledged this fact to ITV Sport following the South Coast Derby win over Portsmouth, saying, "To be honest, in the changing room we've been speaking, and we haven't been fully at it. But it just shows you how good we are because we've not been at it, but we're up there still.
"I think when things finally click, we'll be right up there."
A trip to Norwich City is next up for the Saints. Get Downes on the scoresheet and almost every player in their first-choice XI will have found the net in October of the 2026/27 season.
