Southampton stunned the former Glasgow Rangers striker turned football pundit into silence when Finn Azaz curled in a stunning effort from 20-yards-out against Manchester City, putting the South Coast side ahead with just over ten minutes left to play.
Anybody who listens to McCoist on Talk Sport will know just how difficult it is to silence the lovable rogue and former 'A Question of Sport' team captain.
McCoist scored 251 Scottish Premier Division goals during fifteen seasons at Ibrox before finishing his career at Kilmarnock in 2001.
McCoist given the silent treatment by co-commentators
Alongside Darren Fletcher and Steven Gerrard, McCoist could only stand in awe and take in the crowd reaction after Azaz found the back of James Trafford's net with a curling effort.
After Manchester City had dominated the first half and the first thirty minutes of the second period, Southampton's opening goal came completely against the run of play.
After the goal flew in, TNT's football commentator Darren Fletcher signalled to his co-commentators to stay quiet and soak up the atmosphere.
The 'silent technique' has become a commentator's tactic particularly when the noise is so loud it becomes part of the event's narrative. It was a technique famously employed by Barry Davies during Euro 96.
The moment was captured brilliantly and reproduced for an 'X' post by TNT. Fletcher can be seen holding his hands up to gesture to his colleagues to stay silent while McCoist looked visibly stunned by the goal and the reaction of the crowd.
After the goal went in, Fletcher waited for a full 37 seconds before speaking again. “It's Finn Azaz with the goal of his life at Wembley.“

Two reasons to tune in to Talk Sport on Monday morning
Saints fans will have two reasons to tune in to Talk Sport on Monday morning.
McCoist will be hosting Talk Sport's Breakfast Show alongside former Southampton midfielder Andy Townsend on Monday morning. Townsend played 83 times for Southampton in the mid-eighties before moving to Norwich in the Summer of 1988 for £300,000 in a move that surprised most Saints fans at the time.
Southampton supporters will no doubt be tuning in on Monday morning, interested to hear what both presenters have to say about Saturday's match and McCoist's stunned silence on the commentator's gantry.
Sadly for Southampton, they were unable to hold on to their slender lead and were overwhelmed by two late Manchester City goals.
The Saints will now turn their full attention to the task of securing promotion from the Championship. Tonda Eckert's team has two games left in the regular season to try to snatch an automatic promotion spot. However, promotion via the playoffs looks the most likely route.
