Southampton lost 2-1 at SC Paderborn earlier this afternoon in their third friendly of pre-season, after wins over Eastleigh and Eintracht Braunschweig.
Lewis Dobbin scored again to put the visitors ahead; that's his second goal of the summer.
Paderborn levelled late through an overhead kick from Jano Ter Horst. Steffen Tigges then won it in added time for the newly promoted hosts.
29 players have travelled to Germany for the training camp. One friendly remains, against third-division side Preußen Münster on Saturday.
Dobbin settles in fast
Dobbin arrived from Aston Villa this summer and has wasted no time settling in. He has scored twice and set up Damion Downs once across the three friendlies.
With Finn Azaz still out with a shin problem back home, Dobbin's early goals ease one worry in attack.
Downs did not last the match at Paderborn. He was forced off on 38 minutes with a back problem, and young defender Tommy Dobson-Ventura took his place.
Days earlier at Braunschweig, the striker had broken his goal duck. It was his first for Southampton, after a debut season without a league goal.
The knock is poor timing for a forward the club still backs, and he should be fit again before the first competitive match at Colchester on the 8th August.
Speculation has not changed the team sheet
Léo Scienza and Cameron Archer have spent the summer in transfer talks. Both keep starting.
When Eckert has named his strongest available players in Germany, those two names have started rather than sitting out, which reads as a firm reply to the summer noise.
Scienza has clocked 135 minutes across pre-season, level with most of the settled side. Interest from the Premier League and beyond has been building for weeks.
Archer has the same 135 minutes. His work rate keeps earning him a place, and one assessment warns that selling him could prove a costly call.
Jay Robinson got his first 45 minutes of the summer at Paderborn. The young winger came on in a much-changed second-half eleven.
Romeo Akachukwu and Nicholas Oyekunle featured again after both scored at Eastleigh.
On the other hand, Shea Charles and Sam Edozie remain short on minutes. Interest in Charles has been well documented on Saints Marching as Southampton appear to be holding out for their £30m valuation.
Aaron Ramsdale and Gavin Bazunu are still to feature. Both sit behind Daniel Peretz and George Long amid widespread speculation about each of their futures at Southampton.
A friendly loss changes little before the Colchester cup tie and the Watford opener on the 16th August. What stands out is who keeps getting minutes during pre-season, and for now that group includes the two men most linked with a move.
