Forty-four minutes into the Portsmouth game on the 11th October, Cam Bragg picked up a second yellow card. Southampton were down to ten men in a derby they had waited more than two decades to win.
James Bree's goal in the 20th minute was enough. They held on, and it was the club's first league win over Portsmouth since 2004.
Bragg is now the subject of contract talks, according to the Daily Echo's Alfie House and @SaintsExtra, who reported the news this morning. His deal runs out next summer, and Ryan Manning's does too.

The Portsmouth red card and the Bolton start
Tonda Eckert's reaction was interesting. Six days after the sending-off, he put Bragg in the side for Bolton, alongside James Ward-Prowse.
The game finished goalless, and Bragg did well considering against a resourceful Bolton side who created three big chances.
Eckert runs a squad of 25 on purpose. In a group that small nobody is a project.
Saints Marching reported in December that Andy Goldie called him "the ultimate professional" after a surprise start at Charlton, a line that reads differently now he has been trusted in a derby.
Saints Marching suggested in August that Ward-Prowse could help Bragg develop once he came home. At Bolton the two shared the middle of the pitch, and the theory was put to the test.
A deal renewed one year at a time
Bragg signed his first professional contract in July 2023. Southampton have kept him on short extensions since, one in July 2024 and one last December.
A longer deal would change the tone. It would tell a 21-year-old that the club sees him in next season's plans, not as a name to revisit in the spring.
He joined the academy at eight and waited until October 2025 for a league appearance, which is a long apprenticeship for a player who has now been trusted in a derby and then punished for it inside the same game.
Does a red card slow a deal down? It shouldn't. Eckert did not behave as though it had when he picked the same player six days later.
Southampton have also started talking before the season has reached its busiest weeks. That is the right order of events, because a midfielder with a contract that ends in the summer will start hearing about other clubs well before then.
Give Bragg the longer contract. Then let him keep playing.
