Will Still takes charge of his first comptitive match as Southampton boss today when his side take on Eastleigh at the Silverlake Stadium. All eyes will be on the team the new boss selects to start the match and perhaps more importantly, who he chooses to leave out.
As temperatures are set to reach 30 degrees by kick-off, Still will have one eye on making sure that his side stay hydrated and avoid injuries as much as anything else.
Will Still selects an experienced starting line-up
Still has opted to start with Alex McCarthy in goal but it's difficult to read anything into that with the club still looking to move on Aaron Ramsdale.
James Bree, Jack Stephens, Joachim Kayi-Sanda, and Charlie Taylor line up across the back four, leaving Sugawara, Wood, new signing Joshua Quarshie, and Welington on the bench.
One assumes that Still will rotate the team at half-time. This will give him the opportunity to have a good look at the entirety of his squad in a moderately competitive match.
In midfield, Shea Charles gets the nod alongside Will Smallbone and Ryan Fraser. Saints fans will have to wait until the second half until they get to see the likes of Downes, Dibling, and Robinson.
In attack, Still has gone for an experienced line-up with Adam Armstrong, Ross Stewart, and Ben Brereton-Diaz getting the opportunity to impress.
This means that Cameron Archer, Sam Edozie, and Tyler Dibling will need to wait patiently for their first start under the new manager.
Notable absentees include transfer linked Joe Aribo and Aaron Ramsdale
Notable absentees from the team sheet are Joe Aribo, Damion Downs (who will join up with the squad in Spain), Ronnie Edwards (who has been away on international duty), Taylor Harwood-Bellis (injured), and Ramsdale.
Ramsdale at least has travelled North of the M27 and took part in the warm-up despite not being named among the substitutes.
The absence of Aribo and Ramsdale will only intensify speculation that they will be leaving the club in the summer.
