It does feel a little premature, as we remain in the grips of an intense Championship promotion fight.
But, Southampton fans will be wondering about the long-term futures of some of their beloved camp at this moment in time.
The worry will be whether the promotion chasers can keep a firm grip on Leo Scienza, past the summer, no matter what unfolds with their chances of making it to the Premier League, with Aston Villa reportedly keen on the six-goal ace.
Alongside transfer interest emerging for some of their star personnel, with Finn Azaz also reportedly subject to some prying eyes, there will further be the concern of wrapping up several new contracts at St. Mary's in the off-season, as various players are set to walk away from the South Coast currently, when their deals expire in June.
Southampton players who could walk away
Before delving deeper into those currently contracted permanently, Southampton will also have a decision to make on loanee Daniel Peretz, when the season is up.
It has been reported that the Bayern Munich loanee would welcome a permanent switch to England, having been a revelation since setting foot onto English soil, by collecting a vital six clean sheets from 14 league appearances, so it does read as promising involving the popular goalkeeper.
Alongside a decision needing to be made on Peretz's fixed whereabouts, the wider contract situation on the South Coast indicates that Alex McCarthy might walk away at the close of the season.
This wouldn't be the most gutting development, as the injury-prone 'keeper would struggle for minutes if Peretz were to stick around.
There will be more of a vigour on Southampton's end to tie down Ross Stewart to a new contract, on the other hand, as the Scotsman has bagged an electric six Championship goals this season, despite regularly being used as a late option in games.
There is also James Bree, who might depart St. Mary's shortly, with the 28-year-old continuing to slip under the radar on the South Coast.
Why Bree must be kept
Bree would join the Saints in 2023 as an unassuming pick-up from Luton Town, with the number 14 only making 41 league appearances across his first three seasons, as Southampton seesawed between the Premier League and the Championship.
Injury troubles had frequently troubled the versatile figure, but now - under Eckert - he has managed to find his groove, as he has become a key, if slightly underrated, part of the jigsaw across recent months.
Indeed, Bree is now up to four goals and five assists for the season in the Championship, as he has regularly been thrown into the Saints starting XI as a right-back, or as a more forward-thinking option, down either channel, since returning from a loan stint at Charlton Athletic.
Yet, despite becoming such an undervalued, but vital, presence under the German, an extension to his current deal hasn't been agreed.
The one-time Addicks loanee, who looked to be staring an exit square in the face once upon a time as a reserve player, has come out to say that he'd "love" to iron out the details of a fresh deal.
But, for the time being, he also said there's "more important things going on" in terms of Southampton's ongoing promotion tussle, with this uncertainty over his future no doubt popping back up when the season is over.
Very rarely letting Eckert down, since reemerging as a malleable option, it feels as if would be a shrewd decision to keep him around, whatever league Southampton go on to call home.
