Calum Chambers is renowned as one of Southampton's finest academy fullbacks in recent memory but his Premier League misery hasn't gone unnoticed by the fans. Moreover, Chambers might be up against Southampton on the opening night of the Championship.

More than a decade has gone by, but the 2014 summer transfer business still remains the most high profile one for Southampton and both in terms of signings and outgoings. According to Transfermarkt, the Saints stacked arguably their best attacking trio of Sadio Mane, Shane Long and Graziano Pelle despite compromising on the young shoulders of Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Calum Chambers.

Now, it's difficult for any Southampton fan to glance past this collection of proven Premier League superstars without sighing that they could have even become English champions by keeping hold of all of them and having a bit of luck by their side.

Barring the first five above-mentioned names, Calum Chambers might also be wishing for his previous fate to have been slightly kind to him. The reason being that Chambers was billed with the same expectations at Arsenal as former Saints Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott had carved out over the years but those lofty praises weighed down the fullback's further progress.

Chambers braced for Wrexham offer to battle Saints in first meeting

Though Chambers fell short in meeting his career's true potential at Arsenal but the worst was yet to come. Only in the past twelve months, Chambers has witnessed such a fall from grace that he went from being a Premier League squad member to now being relegated to League One with Cardiff City.

Knowing this gloomy turn of events, Chambers might be seeking a new summer challenge and the EFL Analysis has suggested Wrexham to be one of his eventual new destinations.

Let's be honest, no St. Mary's faithful saw it coming and it's hard to believe even now that a childhood Saint can kickstart Southampton's Championship journey while being in the opposite camp. Yet, such is the past meetup nature of this first matchup shaping up to be where even a starting eleven of former Saints can be a fair expectation and the home fans may not raise their eyebrows at it.

Let's hope they don't as well after peeping at the full-time scoresheet, too.
