Southampton 1-4 Leicester City: Match takeaways
By Edward Waugh
Saints lacked any real grit and desire against the Foxes. Even having gone one down, Pellegrino’s men sat back at times when out of possession.
The intent to get back into the game was not there, when on the back foot Southampton were more concerned about keeping shape. Instead they should’ve pressed the opposition in effort of getting a goal to tie the game up, this being common sense.
With this, some players seemed half-asked. Despite showing moments of class, Virgil van Dijk was one of them. It was not till Saints had gone three down that the Dutchman came to life.
Mentioned before Dusan Tadic was another, the former-FC Twente man spent more time on the floor than on his feet.
With only few players trying to pull their weight in Charlie Austin, Fraser Forster and Ryan Bertrand. It is difficult to achieve a result, let alone not lose by a awful margin like in this game. Manager Pellegrino failing to get the best of some of his players.
