Midfielders

Worked as the right attacking-midfielder, but did not see a lot of the ball.  Presence was felt on free kicks, in which Southampton scored their only goal.. Attacking-midfielder. Southampton. JAMES WARD-PROWSE. 6.5

6.5. A solid match for Davis following his worst performance of the year.  Although, his ability to cover ground is not as strong as it once was, and opposing teams are pressuring him high in possession.. Defensive centre-midfielder. Southampton. STEVEN DAVIS

MARIO LEMINA. 8. Dominated his counterpart Aaron Mooy, and made him look slow, breezing by him on a couple of occasions.  Kept possession much better than his last appearance.  Late in the game was instructed to fall in and cover his centre-backs which I did not understand.. Defensive centre-midfielder. Southampton

4. Does not impact the game enough as Southampton’s #10.  Austin actually had to drop into his position a few times to receive the ball.  Refs are keen to his falling on contact, and his passing is increasingly poor.  Cannot understand why he continues to start.. Attacking-midfielder. Southampton. DUSAN TADIC

6. Seems to have lost all confidence going forward, and the fans are not doing their job to help.  Had a brilliant moment on a 2 on 2 break, and setup Austin which should have been the game winner.  Otherwise still prefers to go wide or back before forward.. Attacking-midfielder. Southampton. NATHAN REDMOND
