Midfielders

ORIOL ROMEU. 5. Came off at half time, which was labeled tactical, but he had a clash of heads in the first half and did not seem right after that.  Something to monitor over the next couple days, because the team needs him in the side.. Defensive centre-midfielder. Southampton

7. Worked really hard today and appears a lot stronger than last year.  Nearly scored a goal with his back after closing down the keeper.  Did not influence the game otherwise going forward, but did a sound job in the centre of the pitch.. Defensive centre-midfielder. Southampton. PIERRE-EMILE HOJBJERG

6.5. His technical ability and pace of play is clearly down.  However, he brings intangibles such as leadership and work ethic to the squad which are unquestioned.  Drove 30 yards down the field in extra time and just missed setting up Carrillo for a game winner.  Still, many will question his inclusion.. Centre-midfielder. Southampton. STEVEN DAVIS

3. Subbed off at half time and rightfully so.  He was dreadful from the opening kick, giving the ball away three times in the first six minutes.  Expect to see the Serbian dropped against West Brom.. Attacking-midfielder. Southampton. DUSAN TADIC

8. Was the best Southampton player on the pitch tonight.  Rarely turns the ball over, and delivers beautiful corner kicks and set pieces.  Picked out Bertrand from a training ground corner that should have been a goal.  Although he did hit the wall from 19 yards out… he should not be left on the bench for the rest of the season.. Attacking-midfielder. Southampton. JAMES WARD-PROWSE
