Burnley 1-1 Southampton: Three key players
By Chris Hughes
Manolo Gabbiadini
Having scored the Saints’ only goal of the game, it’s impossible not to include Gabbiadini. The Italian was impressive after coming off the bench and in a cameo stint alongside Carrillo up top, things looked promising.
Gabbiadini regularly played as a supporting player during his Napoli days meaning he’s more than capable of playing off and around a traditional number nine – the Saints are lacking a natural centre-attacking midfielder and after his performance yesterday there’s enough proof that the Italian could fill that void.
His finish off of Carrillo’s knock-down was smart, with the half volley hit on the spin alluding the Burnley defenders and smashing into the back of the net.
Previously, Gabbiadini had struggled for regular form and consistent game time this season but much like Sims, the Italian has given Pellegrino a real selection dilemma next week.
