Alfie Mawson (Swansea City)

Despite being part of a relegated side, Alfie Mawson could be the answer to Southampton’s defensive woes which saw the Saints keep eight clean sheets in 38 Premier League games having to rely on younger players such as Wesley Hoedt and Jack Stephens.

The departure of Virgil van Dijk ripped out any form of a solid base for Saints, with the addition of Mawson who stands at six-foot-three and possesses great strength and ball-playing ability, it could be considered a somewhat like-for-like replacement, bar not being on the level that the former Dutch defender was.

Transfermarkt quote that Mawson’s current market value is around the £10 million (12 million Euros), though to get Swansea to part with the player, Southampton may have to offer double that to land the defender who scored twice and assisted once last campaign.
