Southampton Full-Back Cedric played the full 90 minutes this afternoon as Portugal claimed a win in their second World Cup group-stage match.

It proved to be a fairly busy afternoon for the Southampton man in an otherwise scrappy affair as he and his teammates fought to a narrow victory.

According to whoscored.com, Cedric contributed six tackles, one interception and five clearances defensively. Further up the pitch, he delivered two crosses and completed 73.7% of his passes.

Again it was Cristiano Ronaldo who was the match winner with a header in the fourth minute, and the 1-0 win sees Portugal top Group B with four points from their two games.

They now go into their final match against second-placed Iran knowing that a win will definitely see them through to the knockout stages.

More from Saints Marching

This match for Portugal saw the second-round of games start for the four Saints players representing their countries in Russia.

Dusan Tadic’s Serbia sit in a good position in Group E after winning their first match against Costa Rica 1-0, and the winger will hope to start again when they face Switzerland on Friday evening.

Yesterday saw the final two Saints players in action. Maya Yoshida tasted victory with Japan by two goals to one over Colombia, but Jan Bednarek will be disappointed after Poland’s 2-1 loss to Senegal.

Japan are next in action on Sunday with a game against Senegal which could put either side through to the knockout stage. Poland next face Colombia on the same day in the evening kick-off.

Both teams are in Group H and Saints fans could see Yoshida and Bednarek face off on Thursday 28th June in their final group clash.
