Southampton Football Club have today finally announced that playmaker Dusan Tadic will join Dutch side Ajax on July 1st.

The Serbian’s future has been the subject of much speculation since the season’s conclusion, with moves to Leicester and Italy also reported.

In recent weeks however it’s been strongly hinted that the 29-year-old was interested on a return to the Netherlands, with his spell at FC Twente putting himself on the map and earning him the move to Southampton back in 2014.

It’s believed that Ajax have spent as much as £18 million to acquire the services of the Serbia international, who could feature for his national side tonight as they play Brazil in their final group stage match.

Whilst Tadic’s creative ability will be sorely missed on the south coast, it’s believed that the Saints have had a bid of £17 million accepted for Basel’s Mohamed Elyounoussi – a skillful, pacey winger who can also play behind the striker.

More from Saints Marching

This comes just a day after the Saints completed a deal for Stuart Armstrong – whilst the Scotsman isn’t a natural #10, he can push further forward from the middle of the park.

After an impressive first couple of seasons on the south coast, Tadic’s past two campaigns have been seriously underwhelming and have caused much of the fanbase to turn against him.

Granted, the Serbian’s end-of-season form gave reason to believe that his best game was back, however the money offered for his services seemed far too much to turn down.

The 29-year-old’s contract has just two years remaining on it, meaning Southampton may of only received half of that had they kept hold of him for another year.

Following confirmation of the deal, Southampton released the following statement:

"“Everyone at Southampton Football Club would like to thank Dušan for all of his efforts during his four years at St Mary’s, and we wish him every success in the future.”"
