Harry Tizard – Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Brighton)

A fantastic strike from long distance or a mazy run beating three or four opposition players are what would be considered a conventional goal of the season, by mine goes to one very different.

For me, the winner has to be the Pierre-Emile Hojberg goal against Brighton.

The Danish international goal was the absolute epitome of Southampton Football club under Ralph Hasenhuttl and was exactly what the fans want to see.

The high press system worked to perfection, with Pierre himself winning the ball, high up the field. The ball was eventually played to Redmond, who ran confidently and directly towards a backtracking Brighton defence and played a perfectly weighted ball back to the captain who poked home.

The goal did not only show how the Saints had changed so positively under new management, but was one against a relegation rival that put the red and whites in such a good position going into the last few games and was the foundation for Southampton’s survival.
