Southampton: Hojbjerg and Danso play a part in international wins for Denmark and Austria
By Marc Walker
Southampton players Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Kevin Danso played their part in international wins for their respective sides over the past two days.
Both played in important qualifying fixtures that will hopefully lead to them securing a place at upcoming European Championships for Denmark and Austria Under-21s.
Hojbjerg came on as a second-half substitute as Denmark beat Switzerland 1-0 in their Euro 2020 qualifier this evening.
The game was goalless until the 84th minute when Spurs man Christian Eriksen set up RB Leipzig striker Youssef Poulsen for the winner.
After the Republic of Ireland drew against Georgia earlier in the day, Denmark would have wanted to take advantage by securing the three points.
Both sides now sit level on 12 points at the top of qualifying Group D and look set to be the two teams that go through automatically and to a play-off.

After working his way back into his nations plans, this was Hojbjerg’s 29 international cap.
Kevin Danso played the full 90 minutes for Austria Under-21s yesterday as they won their Under-21s Euros qualifier against Turkey 3-0.
Austria were 2-0 up by half-time after goals from Nicolas Meister and Marko Raguz, whilst Sandi Lovric sealed the victory with a third in the 65th minute.
Danso and his teammates now sit top of their qualifying group – which includes England Under-21s too – after winning all three of their opening games.
Hojbjerg will be looking for more involvement on Tuesday when Denmark play Luxembourg, and Danso will also be back in action on the 15th too when Austria Under-21s play England Under-21s.
Saints’ international representatives are well into their October schedule now in what is the second international break of the 2019/20 season.
Jan Bednarek, Maya Yoshida, Michael Obafemi and Stuart Armstrong have already played too, and Bednarek and Armstrong will be back in action for Poland and Scotland respectively tomorrow.
