Southampton: Key details of Walker-Peters and Cedric loan deals revealed
By Marc Walker
Southampton completed the signing of Spurs full-back Kyle Walker-Peters on a season-long loan deal earlier today.
The 22-year-old had been linked with a move to St Mary’s for much of January and it was confirmed that Saints had got their man at 5:30 UK time.
Now that the deal is over the line, details of the loan have been confirmed by reporters.
According to the likes of BBC Radio Solent’s Adam Blackmore and the Daily Echo’s Dan Sheldon, the six-month temporary deal that Saints have struck does not include an option to buy at the end of the season.
This goes against what Ralph Hasenhuttl said he preferred – a loan deal with an option to bring a player in permanently for some sort of security if the player performs well.
Walker-Peters is a player who has lost his way at Spurs having fallen behind both Serge Aurier and Japhet Tanganga in the pecking order.

However, the move looks to be a good one for all parties, with the player now given a chance to show his worth and Saints getting an option at both right-back and left-back.
Walker-Peters looks to be a straight replacement for Cedric Soares, who is reportedly closing in on an initial loan deal with Arsenal.
This move looks to be a good one for Saints with a loan fee and savings in wages looking set to save them £5m (via Adam Blackmore).
A report on the deal from the Telegraph also states that Arsenal have an option to hand the Portuguese international a four-year deal when his contract with Saints runs out in the summer.
Cedric started this season in poor form and found himself in a strange situation after publicly confirming that this will be his last campaign with Saints.
However, his levels of performance have improved hugely lately and he’s become a key part of a team that has remarkably climbed from 18th to 9th in the Premier League.
This is where bringing in a player in Walker-Peters who has played in the top-flight will be important because he should take less time to bed in.
