Norwich 0-1 Saints, 28th April 2007, Championship

Just two years after dropping out of the Premier League, Saints had built a talented team capable of delivering a return to the top-flight after just two years away.

Five wins in seven games to end the 2007/08 season saw them claim a place in the play-offs, and this was one of them.

Leon Best hammered home Gareth Bale’s cross on the half-hour to claim another three points for Saints, but the campaign wouldn’t end as they would have wanted.

A two-legged play-off semi-final against Derby County was a fantastic watch for the neutral fan but resulted in a loss on penalties for Saints.

Saints team: Bartosz Bialkowski, Alexander Ostlund, Pele, Claus Lundekvam, Chris Baird, Danny Guthrie, Jhon Viafara, Andrew Surman, Kenwyne Jones (Bradley Wright-Phillips), Leon Best (David McGoldrick), Gareth Bale
