Young Player of the Season

Kyle Walker Peters

This choice might prove a little bit controversial, given that firstly Walker Peters hasn’t long been on the south coast, and secondly, at 23 the former Tottenham man isn’t exactly the youngest candidate in the squad.

Despite, only appearing 10 times for SFC, the right back has made an impressive showing.

The full-back has proven strong at both ends of the pitch. Walker Peters shows a good energy when pushing forward, solid ball retention, and is difficult to shake off even when his team is being pushed onto the back foot.

If readers were hoping to see a youth prospect breakthrough and claim this prize, then the season has unfortunately been a disappointment. While the likes of Will Smallbone and Jake Vokins have made the occasional appearance, they’ve hardly given us a lot to go on.

Michael Obafemi deserves an honourable mention for a few impressive strikes this season not least against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Nevertheless, in just two handfuls of games Walker Peters has not only filled a crucial gap in defence, but also secured for himself a permanent move and a guaranteed starting berth.
