Midfielders

James Ward-Prowse, Central-Midfielder – 5

Most passes of any Saints player but could not stop the consistent flow of attacks from West Brom that kept creating chances in the first-half.

Saw his late penalty saved on a thoroughly miserable day for his side. Will now play a crucial role in leading his side to Wembley next week.

Ibrahima Diallo, Central-Midfielder – 4

Looked to want too much time on the ball when picking his passes and was quickly swarmed by home players.

Stuart Armstrong, Attacking-Midfielder – 6

Tried to create something and was one of the only positives for Saints on the day.

Attempted five dribbles but did not have much movement from others to work with. Resolute defending from West Brom was one cause, but really better links with Walker-Peters and Armstrong were needed to help Saints reply with chances of their own.

Theo Walcott, Attacking-Midfielder – 4

After this game, his place in the team may well be under threat for next weekend. Did not get into the game at all and will need to get back up to speed quickly if he is to earn a potential permanent deal during the summer.

Fewest touches of any Saints starter by quite some way.
