Following the third consecutive Premier League defeat after the Leicester City match, Southampton manager Russell Martin confirmed his Saints future while suggesting that the board believes in his long-term plans. However, in the recent couple of weeks, several managers such as West Brom's Carlos Corberan, Brentford's Thomas Frank and UEFA Conference League 2022/23 winner David Moyes have been tipped to replace Martin at the St. Mary's Stadium.

New Contract

After winning the Championship playoff final 1-0 to achieve Premier League promotion, Southampton rewarded Russell Martin with a new three-year contract in July. Thus, Martin's current contract will run until the 2027 summer transfer window which suggests that financial decisions could play an important role in deciding Martin's future at the club.

According to a recent report, Southampton will have to pay a significant £12 million fee as compensation to the promotion-winning manager if they decide to part ways with him. This is a significant amount for the club, who spent a combined £14.6 million fee as part of the release-clause two seasons ago in sacking three different managers.
