Luke Shaw sets out high Premier League aim for Manchester United amidst his no-hidden Saudi transfer rumours.
It's been over a decade since Saints parted with their best wonderkid ever, Luke Shaw, but while it hasn't been easy for them, Shaw's dream has remained unfilled, too. The aspiration of a Premier League title, which looked quite feasible with a Man United move, but hasn't materialised.
With 11 years gone by, the Red Devils have seen a turn for the worse and though the League winners a year before Shaw's signing, they haven't come close since.
But while Shaw's collective performance with Man United hasn't been up to the mark, his personal trajectory hasn't been stable either. While the 30-year-old has gone on to win some accolades, Shaw's Red Devils spell has been a tale plagued with injuries and heartbreaks.
Hence, it's very much understandable what a league victory means to Luke Shaw, still. And to say, his ongoing Saudi rumours can be a great help if he embarks on a journey with a title contender there.
Yet, intriguingly enough, the fullback wants to achieve this uphill task at Old Trafford itself. Recently, speaking to Sky Sports, Shaw revealed his Premier League aspirations, which most would have hoped for him to give up by now.
Shaw reveals his ultimate Man United goal but it won't be easy
Talking about the upcoming season preparations, Luke Shaw mentioned: "I'm enjoying that. Aims-wise, I think the aim has to be winning the Premier League."
Honestly, Saints fans will applaud their former academy graduate for holding high his dreams, despite what he's gone through. Yet, while the optimism sounds motivating, St. Mary's faithful know how difficult it will be for Shaw now.
That's because, coming on the back of a season where Man United registered their worst Premier League finish, it feels unfair to even bring them into the title contenders conversation. And the fact that Shaw's ambitions would already be over if he joined the Saudi League doesn't help his case either.
Realising the scenarios, Southampton fans are likely to witness another academy superstar end up without the Premier League title, after Gareth Bale. But the latter went on to achieve all his goals with Real Madrid, later. Does something interesting await Shaw, too? At least let's hope so.
