£65 million striker names Southampton star as his close teammate

The UEFA Nations League and the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers are ongoing and thus, a lot of Southampton players will represent their national teams in these two weeks. On the other hand, there are a few star players who didn't get called-up in the international break but are highly likely to become a regular mainstay in their respective national teams. One of them is versatile fullback Kyle Walker-Peters who is an integral part of the Southampton defence, being capable of playing on both sides of the defence.

Recently, the 27-year-old was started as a third centre-back alongside Jan Bednarek and Taylor Harwood-Bellis against Arsenal, and the former Tottenham Hotspurs academy graduate gave a rock solid defensive display. Walker-Peters made a number of huge blocks and important interceptions near the box and displayed his tenacious tackling ability to keep Mikel Arteta's side from scoring in the first half. These performances have led him to be in contention for an England call-up again, with new manager Lee Carsley praising the 27-year-old due to his consistent performances for the Saints in the previous seasons.

Hence, Walker-Peters could add to his two international appearances in the upcoming months, where he could be re-united with former England U20 teammate Dominic Solanke. The duo were a part of England's U20 World Cup winning squad in 2017, and £65 million Tottenham Hotspurs star Solanke fondly remembered those moments after getting his first England call-up, saying,

"I think we all keep in touch a little bit, some more than others. There are quite a few I am close with from that World Cup. Two of my closest friends on and off the pitch are Kyle Walker-Peters and Tosin Adarabioyo who I played with at various age groups with England. "

The former Bournemouth striker joined Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham Hotspurs in a £65 million move in the transfer window, and would be keen to play alongside Walker-Peters for both club and country. Following Walker-Peters's another impressive season at Southampton, Tottenham Hotspurs were considering making an opening bid to bring Walker-Peters back to their club. However, a transfer move didn't happened but Kyle Walker-Peters is entering into the final year of his Southampton contract and may decide to return to Tottenham on a free transfer next season.

This would be a massive blow to Southampton and hence, they should offer him a better long-term contract as part of their plans to assemble a quality Premier League squad in the upcoming seasons.
