Cameron Archer's Russell Martin reunion in danger due to Premier League legend

Cameron Archer's possible escape route to Rangers is now filled with transfer question marks as Premier League legend Jamie Vardy has entered into contention.

Since Russell Martin has given his nod to manage his native club Rangers, Cameron Archer is probably the happiest man in Southampton's camp. Though Archer saw his lows and struggles under Martin, his comeback response was undeniably great.

And with the season over, the 23-year-old has every right to be angry at Southampton for getting rid of Martin. A coach and by far, the only one at St. Mary's who gradually helped the former to bridge the learning curve in the English top flight.

Irrespective of that, now Archer is a standout candidate in Martin's eyes, so it's a win-win for the £15m Saints flop right? Well, here's where things are beginning to take another unfortunate turn for the Englishman.

Cameron Archer may end up staying at Southampton

According to a report from The Daily Mail (via The Mirror), Premier League legend Jamie Vardy has emerged as a low risk attacking option for Rangers. Now, Archer isn't losing ground here in terms of age, but going up front he isn't as proven as Vardy.

And let's be honest about the probability of Rangers offering even half of the transfer paycheck Southampton parted ways with while onboarding the versatile forward. Truth be told, that's negligible and unless the Saints accept a loan, Archer's path to Scottish football is pretty much uncertain at least for this summer.

So, the former must prepare himself well for the preseason as that will then make his case for some good offers down the road.

As for now, Archer is on track to coming second again in front of Vardy after the pair got on the score sheet in the frustrating 3-2 defeat at St. Mary's.
